Baroness Shirley Williams Visits Ashdown School While Supporting Annette Brooke's Re-Election Campaign9.00.00pm UTC (GMT +0000) Wed 27th Apr 2005
Liberal Democrat Peer, Shirley Williams took time to visit Ashdown School on Canford Heath on Wednesday supporting Annette Brooke's campaign for re-election in Mid Dorset. Meeting students at the school attending an after school home work club, Annette and Shirley learned how the school is taking steps to raise the standards of some of its weaker students with supplementary lessons in mathematics, science and technology. Joining in a maths supplementary lesson, Annette Brooke and Shirley Williams observed the class, which is funded with a special grant from the DfES to provide additional support for some students. Asking the students what was most needed for the school, most answered, "better funding and more resources". Students standing in the school's 'mock General Election' at the school representing the Liberal Democrats, Labour, Green and Conservative parties also met Annette Brooke and Shirley Williams and highlighted the parties' key campaign messages and their reasons for standing in the mock election.
